• Design and implement a business research project to determine the current net value of all wireless communications equipment/assets (towers and frequencies) including analysis of the effect of a communications infrastructure over haul (system-wide).

The Challenge

• A primary objective was to develop strategies to minimize the inconvenience to thousands of users while researching and auditing the system.
• The project studied the impact of system-wide communication changes.  Specifically, this research examined (1) the overall effect of a communications infrastructure change on end users and corporate communications, and (2) the cost savings impact of a more technologically advanced system.
• While current measures of expenses were available, a complex analysis was required to be able to examine the impact of changes in the degree of use the new system would have and its expense effects.

The Solution

• The proper data was gathered and follow-up interviews with key department decision makers in the firm were conducted to verify its quality.
• Advanced econometric techniques were used to test the various hypotheses regarding the effect of a new communications system on the corporate bottom line.

The Deliverables

• A final report was completed that fully explained the results while clarifying the methodology and variances in the overall study.
• Key department managers were briefed on the results and how to interpret them followed by discussion on future communication infrastructure strategies.

The Results

• Using a data set containing many observations, we found that a more technologically advanced communications system would save money and enhance corporate and end user communications capabilities.  The new system saves hundreds of thousands of dollars per year and has played a substantial role in decreasing overall operating expenses.
